Blog 16: Answer 2

1. My EQ is "What is the best strategy a manager can use to make his small business more successful?"

2. My first answer is, "The best strategy a manager can use to make his business more successful is to treat his employees well."

3. My seconds answer is, "The best strategy a manager can use to make his business more successful is to create a good business plan."

4. If you are just starting up your business creating a business plan will help layout what exactly you want your business to do. Business plans also include all marketing plans that you may use, and marketing is an important part of having a successful business. By using a business plan a manager will know exactly what works and doesn't work in a business as time goes on.

5. I think the article that best supports my answer is "Ten Things Every Good Business Plan Must Have." It was the first article I read that explained why a business plan was good to have, and gave good information on how to make a good one.

6. A few other sources that helped support my answer are the article "Writing a Business Plan? 4 Common Mistakes to Avoid" and the book "The Ultimate Marketing Plan: Find Your Hook, Communicate Your Message, Mark Your Mark." I only recently decided on my answer 2, so I still need to find more sources regard it.

7. I chose creating a good business plan as my answer 2 because if you're just starting up a business or already have one making sure the business plan is good. The plan provides a good layout of everything your company stands for and can lead to great success.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Approval

1. Considering the fact that I don't have many options of things I can do for an independent component, I think I'm going to just complete my online Business course on sailors.com. I only completed two of the five units and would like to finish it.

2. The class offer more than enough work for 30 hours of work, I got over 30 just with the first two units I completed. To show proof I'll either print out a transcript that shows I completed the course or I'll just have a Google docs that has all the work I do.

3. Like before taking this online course will help me get more of a technical and educational look at business. So, if I were to pursue a career in business the class provides a good starting foundation. With the work I started in my first independent component I  already  learned a lot more than I had known before so completing the course will teach me even more.

Blog 14: Independent Component 1

Literal
A) I, Humberto Tavira , affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 34 hours of work.
B) I completed my independent component on saylor.org. I used the different sources from links provided on this page. http://www.saylor.org/courses/bus101/#
C) Check link on the side
D) For my independent component i took an Introduction to Business class online. It required me to read through various books, take some notes, and complete some activities as well. The course taught all the basics regarding business such as explaining inflation or looking at a country's GDP.

Interpretive
The course itself was significant in that it taught me more of the things someone would need to know if the were to pursue a career in business while in college. It was good taking this course because my mentor himself didn't go to college to get a degree in business, so this fills in the information he maybe unable to provide. The work I completed took hours to complete and I estimated it took around 30 hours to complete. Of the course I didn't get to complete all of it I only managed to finish 2 units of the 5 available.

Applied
The independent component helped me better understand my topic by showing me information that I may not have been able to get from another source. It's taught me all sorts of things regarding business such as what the parts of a business cycle are, which are the peak when the economy is at its highest, contraction where the economy begins to go down, the trough where the economy is at its lowest point, and finally expansion where the economy begins to grow. I wouldn't have learned that or other interesting things if it hadn't been for this course.

Extra Blog: January

I really hate how I keep forgetting about these extra blogs, but anyway, let's see over the last month I've worked more on my independent component. The component has had me reading a lot of different things regarding business, but I feel like it's been worth the effort. Besides that there was the second lesson plan which is thankfully now over. During research currently I've found a good book called The Ultimate Marketing Plan by Dan Kennedy. The books has helped teach me a lot about ow to best get your business noticed and get  more business.

Blog 13: Lesson 2 Reflection

1. I'm most proud of my PowerPoint from the Lesson 2 Presentation. It wasn't anything really amazing, but compared to other PowerPoints I've made it looked nice and had good information.

2. a) I would probably give myself an AP, maybe AP+
    b) I felt that the presentation overall went fairly well, but I don't think I made time and might have missed one or another of the P requirements.

3. Compared to Lesson 1 being able to use a PowerPoint really helped me collect my ideas on what I was going to talk about.

4. If I could change one thing it would be that I rehearse the presentation beforehand so that I could see what I could change or add to make it better.

5. I think my answer two might be, "Have a good business plan."

Blog 12: Mentorship 10 Hours Check

1. I am doing my mentorship at TD Knitting my dad's textile business.

2. My contact is my dad Humberto Tavira, he owns and manages the business.

3. I have only done the ten required so far. I've gone to mentorship a couple of times but I never worked for too long.

4. While I'm there I generally will help out by doing work on the computer or walking around with my mentor to see what he does and if possible help out. That could vary from helping him check inventory to just telling one of the employees something he wants done.

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1. Over the break I primarily worked on my individual component and have finished a lot. It's been a lot of reading, but I've learned a lot from it.

2. All the different things I've been reading about such as how inflation rates have changed and more have been interesting to learn about. These are all important for the fact that I'm learning more of the technical terms regarding business. The source of what I've learned is my Introduction to Business online class.

3. If I were to do an interview with someone regarding answers to my EQ I would find a small business owner or manager to see what they have learned from their experience.
